Doncaster Fear Factory is a multi-maze scare park located in the grounds of Thornhurst Manor in you guessed it, Doncaster. The event launched last year in its new permanent location, and has seen further changes for the 2022 season conjuring up new ways to scare; with a reimagined maze, a returning favourite, and 2 brand new mazes, alongside their roaming creatures which all add up to a terrifying night out. The event is accessible by car and includes ample free parking on site. Tickets include entry and one go on each maze; there is an option for fast track which allows you to skip queues, as there can be deceivingly long waits at times, so do recommend if you don’t have all evening to visit.

We visited Doncaster Fear Factory on Saturday 8th October which is the first weekend of their operational calendar. The experience begins from the moment you step foot out of your car with the roaming creatures on the prowl, and they certainly aren’t afraid to get up close. They continue their antics throughout the queue and forest walkway to enter the event, and you never know where they may pop up around the event area, maybe even in a maze when they feel like it; nowhere is safe. Last year really took us by surprise with how full-on the team were, and it’s nice to see them continue this, which really adds a lot of humour as well as unnerving moments to the overall experience – they are a real credit to the event.

This year sees the addition of a DJ playing music to create a bit of atmosphere, there’s some sheltered seating areas in case the weather takes a turn for the worse, and the bar area now also serves food. The toilets at the event however, are quite scary and for the wrong reasons (and no we’re not even talking about Pogo Club)… we do hope to see the event further develop their hub area in the future for a more complete feel and better toilet facilities. 

Overall Doncaster Fear Factory is really starting to gain traction as a big contender in the UK scare industry with some excellent concepts, storylines and high quality acting really pushing the boundaries, whilst some other events are taking a step back from contact scares. With 3 very strong mazes, including a perfect 10/10 (our only one of the season so far), and a very strong team of actors, we do believe it is an event not to be missed this Halloween season.
