More About Fantasy Island…

Odyssey is the headline attraction at the park, a huge suspended rollercoaster with some of the tallest inversions in Europe, it’s certainly a boisterous ride. Millennium is a multi-inversion sit down rollercoaster which is one of the smoothest around; for Fear Island it was renamed Millennium Darkness where you’d wear a blindfold, though during our visit, this experience didn’t seem to be on offer. There’s a whole range of other attractions including a couple of small rollercoasters and plenty of fairground style rides from family to thrilling.

Despite the large coasters outside, the big pyramid structure still dominates the skyline, which features numerous ways to keep you entertained inside. There’s a large arcade complete with a bowling alley, restaurants and even a crazy golf. There’s a small children’s rollercoaster, high ropes course, and numerous other family attractions, including a raft waterslide, you’ll be surprised how much there is to do.

New for 2022 at Fantasy Island are two fantastically unique dark ride attractions which are located inside the pyramid. The Guardian is the only ride of its kind in the UK with a thrilling take on the flying theatre concept, it features a detailed queue line and pre show detailing the story of the attraction; we do however wish the screen quality within the ride was higher, and that the movements utilised the ride system better. Harrington Flint’s Island Adventures is an interactive trackless dark ride which follows in the footsteps of the explorer. Equipped with laser guns you journey through the well themed ride with several stop sections featuring screens which display characters to shoot at to score points.

Blood Bunker

“Enter a labyrinth of vaults hidden deep beneath the ground as you take part in a deadly game of ‘Cat and Mouse’.  Serial killer Edward Slice and his murderous band of cohorts are ready to ‘play’, and YOU are their prey inside Blood Bunker…”

Who is Edward Slice, well you’re sure to find out, as the story takes a dark turn being sent underground. The most energetic actors could be found in this attraction with a chilling introduction, taking a dark turn once you step out of the elevator. The maze featured many dark and claustrophobic scenes where the actors utilise the space and choose their victims. We loved the lift section which you may be in for a bumpy ride. Despite there being very few actors, they did follow throughout the maze and had plenty of opportunities for interaction and scares, before leading to the unique finale scene getting up close.

Villa Voodoo

“Venture through the misty bayou and into the murderous mansion of serial killer Delphine La Laurie, in an extended version of The House of Voodoo with all-new chambers of torment.  Can you evade the clutches of the otherworldly inhabitants and escape Villa Voodoo?”

This was our favourite maze of the event, which has had some noticeable upgrades over the past couple years further expanding on the theming and storyline. A great close-up introduction set the scene for the maze before being sent on your way through a variety of jungle and villa environments. Dimly lit corridors allowed for some great jump scares, combined with brief stop sections to further add to the immersive journey made for a solid scare attraction. We personally really enjoyed the introduction, laser swamp room and wobbly jungle bridge.

With 4 scare mazes, the Circus of Screams, a free family stage show and the rest of the amusement park, Fear Island is a great event put on by Fantasy Island, and one we return to year upon year.
