A magical escape room mystery where world renowned magician The Great Noximillian, is hiding more than just tricks up his sleeve. Time to team up with Sam and help save Casey, Noximillian’s assistant before she goes missing on her 13th show!
The Vanishing Act is a part of Locurio Escape Rooms located in Seattle. Locurio is co – founded by Natalie, Summer & Philip who are focused on entertaining people in new ways through immersive, live-action experiences. They also have a mission to “delight, inspire, empower, exhilarate, sometimes frighten, and, above all, evoke a sense of mystery within all who experience our games.”
They have debuted with the launch of The Vanishing Act, which is a physical room at their headquarters within Seattle however, with the pandemic affecting all of the world, The Vanishing Act Remote has been launched to allow guests from all over the world experience the highly immersive, award winning escape room.
“The Great Noximillian, world-renowned magician, is hiding more than just tricks up his sleeve. His past five assistants have mysteriously gone missing, each after their 13th performance with Noximillian. Now his latest assistant, Casey, is desperate to uncover the truth behind these disturbing disappearances.
Casey’s roommate, Sam, plans to investigate The Great Noximillian’s private dressing room while Casey and the magician are busy on stage…but Sam needs your help.
Find out what Noximillian has been hiding and solve the mystery before the show is over and Casey’s time is up!”
The Vanishing Act works its magic from the get go, with a live host in character throughout the experience. Using a mixture of live acting and pre-recorded elements, the story blends and questions reality. Getting you into the story and a very clear objective, the game is set and with 90 minutes to achieve this in instead of the usual 60.
From a rabbit hutch to the vanishing box, the room is littered with numerous typical magical items you’d find by magicians and all with a mysterious purpose. With the large range of puzzles needing to be discovered and then solved, you have to keep working as a team on this one to have any chance of escaping!
Storyline & Themeing: 8/10
This experience has a cohesive storyline & theme which really draw you into the challenge and the importance to solve the strange disappearances before it happens once more! We particularly enjoyed the intro and outro scenes which were blended very well into the game and make you question where the physical room is actually located. The themeing of the room looked decent overall and looked as we would expect a dressing room to, but wait there’s more!?….
Puzzles & Flow: 9/10
There were a significant number of puzzles and definitely more than meets the eye. It incorporated a mix of padlocks and other actions, with a unique way to solve each one. It flowed very well and allowed us to work on several bits at the same time, though became quite obvious which was which so was certainly not too confusing and worked in its favour. The addition of an online inventory and overview of the room greatly assisted with the puzzles which may usually be harder viewing virtually from a live camera feed.
Uniqueness: 9/10
Magicians are a reasonably common theme in escape experiences, but this was pulled off very well with a unique storyline that followed consistently throughout the experience. The online portal alongside the game is the best and most comprehensive one we’ve seen used in an escape room and makes it stand out for ease of use, and even ability to solve and submit some the puzzles yourself using it!
Overall, The Vanishing Act is a perfect transitioned physical room to the remote world. The use of the most advanced & comprehensive inventory system we’ve seen so far in the virtual escape room world, mixed with the detailed story and illusion of where present live game starts to where it ends, Locurio have it covered. We loved every part of the experience and that is why it has rated so highly! A massive thank you to our games host who played Sam, as he brings the room alive with his acting over the course of the 90+ minutes of suspense, panic and frantic puzzle solving.
Thank you to the amazing hosts being Locurio for allowing us to experience the great Vanishing Act escape room, it was an immersive experience we wanted more of. The Vanishing Act Remote room is available to book via Locurio’s website which can be found below and does cost $140 for up to 4 players. Whilst it’s one of the more expensive games for 4, it does not dissapoint and you also do get an extra 30 minutes!
