Splashdown Quaywest is an outdoor waterpark located towards the south of the UK near Paignton, Devon. Being the largest outdoor waterpark in the UK, they have fun for all the family across its 8 water slides, small splash pools and a swimming pool. Splashdown Quaywest is a part of the Lemur Leisure Ltd group, which also operate Splashdown Poole and other attractions. This attraction has been open since 1988 and has been a great summer offering for guests all across the UK through their operating season between May through to September.
For 2021, Splashdown Quaywest started their season on May 1st and will be open until September 5th. Tickets must be purchased online prior to visiting and this is due to covid restrictions which have caused a few amendments to the usual day to day operations. Tickets cost £14.50 for a 2 hour session of £17 for a 3 hour session per person. They usually are open during the hours of 9/10am through to 5/6pm depending on the time of your visit.
Other covid restrictions across the park have been added are reduced capacity, additional cleaning, hand sanitiser points and social distancing markers. A different temporary entrance has been made round the side to keep a 1 way system in place for guests entering and leaving the park. Splashdown have managed to add these in well which don’t take away from a customer experience during your visit. Sadly for younger guests, the under 5s play area cannot open during this restrictive time but we are sure this will open later in the year with the lifting of restrictions!
Splashdown Quaywest is home to 8 slides which allow you to go down on your body, mat or a tyre. Each ride has some restrictions and it is worth checking the website for full details before your visit. These will be displayed on the slides before you can ride also.
Starting with the two easy flumes, Wet & Wild and Corkscrew are not to be missed. Whilst they may seem tame, you can get some great speed and adrenaline going down these body sides.
Moving onto the medium slides, Sidewinder is another body slide and adds another layer of thrill from the easy slides. If you wonder where it gets its name from, you won’t after you’ve ridden this flume! Surf Lagoon and Raging Rapids are the other medium slides and are inflatable ring slides. Both offer great family action as they are multiple small slides with splash tubs in the middle of the twist & turns.
Finally to the top thrill attractions, the severe classed flumes which are for the bravest of visitors. Starting of with Wild Kamikaze, this triple drop slide accelerates you down at some speed. The Screamer is a black hole slide, meaning you go down in a dark tube. This is a short, sharp, shock as this high speed water ride descends you like a bullet through a 60 degree steep arc!
The final slide to mention is Devil’s Drop. A 65ft near vertical drop into a black hole run out. Did we mention it is also the highest and fastest flume in the UK? Only the brave will conquer the drop…
Want to visually these slides more? Our POV shows you what you are missing out on!
We managed to visit Splashdown Quaywest on their opening day on May 1st. The weather was great for our 2 hour session and the waterworld wasn’t busy at all. It had a great atmosphere and the covid restrictions were all there but didn’t take away from a normal visit. We were fortunate enough to share with you some images we took during our day along with a POV of the slides! We think this is a top waterpark for the UK to have and with it being located in the Torbay area, you can really make a nice family day out!
We must thank the team at Splashdown for giving permission for the above filming and photography. Let us know your thoughts on this great waterpark!
