Doncaster Fear Factory is a new multi maze event located in the North of the UK in Yorkshire. Hosted at Thornhurst Manor, they have advertised 3 brand new mazes, 2 scare zones, music, street theatre and other entertainment for an evening of Halloween fun. 

Running throughout October on selected dates, Doncaster Fear Factory transports you into a nightmare world of a dystopian future where horror awaits. 

The event is hosted outside with no undercover areas and within a forest like area. So take note of this when it rains, although it was perfectly fine during our trip. You start the experience by entering one of the scare zones which is a pathway to the main hub area. With a handful of actors within scare zone and some themeing, it was a fun little walk through to get your heart racing before you experienced one of the mazes! 

One thing to note is the actors got very up close and personal at Fear Factory. They loved to play with your hair, stroke you, and other kinds of seduction like behaviour. This certainly makes you feel a tad uncomfortable and gives some tension for the mazes ahead. 

Before we talk about the mazes, we do have to address the event and how it is advertised. Sadly, the setup of the hub area was very basic, with no music, a small cash snack bar and a handful of benches and portable toilets. There is also a one way system in place, which can seem confusing depending on where you start however, the roaming actors will give you a helping hand. 

The second scare zone was just after the main hub area, heading towards two of the mazes. This was pretty empty with just one actor in this area and some construction roadwork themeing around the forest pathway. The roaming actors did feature from the mazes at the event, giving you a little insight into what’s to come within. 

Another constructive criticism point would be that the maze endings are all the same style. It’ll be great to see the event be a little more creative like they have been with the stories and themes. 

Overall, Doncaster Fear Factory was a great event that we enjoyed in our 90 minutes there. Whilst simple in some areas and can benefit from some improvements, the event had some elements we have yet to see in 2021. From very hands-on actors and a great ending to Yana!
