RIDE SPOILERS – START

The ride vehicle makes it way on its track at a slow pace through the various scenes, the vehicles are also able to spin around which adds the slightly thrilling element to the attraction and gives views to different themeing at different points. There is also onboard audio, and audio around the ride; we did find at times there was quite a lot going on, and hard to hear all the narration/voices.

Throughout the various scenes, a variety of themeing and affects are used. Whilst it uses some 2D cutouts amongst the themeing, they are of a good quality and fits the cartoon story theme very well, they are also a small part of the themeing, and there is a lot of 3D features used too. Projections are very prominent throughout the attraction, which are also used on retractable curtains to separate the scenes before the ride vehicle passes through it.

The effects used during the ride include smoke, projections, smells and even bubbles! Some of our favourite highlights include the disappearing crown, mobility scooter chase scene, and descending into the sewers. Overall they have created a fantastic experience, which seems perfect for the family audience with children, but also has a lot going on with puns and other Easter eggs for adults and enthusiasts to enjoy!

Royal Carousel is a great looking carousel, which is rethemed to fit into Walliams lane and slightly relocated from its previous location in the area. Raj’s Bouncy Bottom Burp is another rethemed small children’s drop tower attraction, and comes complete with farting noises!

Flavio’s Fabulous Fandango is a standard sizzler/twister fairground attraction with some additional themeing added around including disco balls, there was also a themed announcement from Flavio.

Raj’s Shop is a store selling snacks, drinks, toys and merchandise, including David Walliams books! On our visit there was a friendly shopkeepers assistant giving us an insight to the shop with the fake offers and other hilariously terrible puns.

Overall The World of David Walliams is a much needed area back open at Alton Towers, but with refreshed rides and a new excellent headline dark ride attraction which is suitable for everyone – be sure to experience it for yourself!
