Outdoors Hub

Heading over to the outdoors hub, this was the new area they introduced since covid to help spread the event out a little more. Here you can find all of the food options which had funky Halloween names such as Killer Coffee. You’ll also find a range of funfair based rides at this end of the event, which are paid extra and could choose from bumper cars, a waltzer and a twister type ride. The fire and light show is also hosted in this section, which happens every hour starting from 7:45pm to 10:45pm, lasting around 5 minutes. With it being its second year introducing this kind of entertainment, it was interesting to see another event produce a fire and light show. Amongst the energetic playlist of songs, was plenty of pyro, lasers and flashing lights. All accompanied by a team of 5 performers who were dancing in their skeleton outfits on the stage. Visually this was very impressive and was our favourite fire show of 2022 so far that we have experienced! We loved it so much we watched it 3 times during our evening and each time it stunned us with the high quality production.

Corny’s Cornevil

This is Hallowscream’s clown maze and it was interesting to see another Halloween event take on this concept and how they would interpret it. There were many visually pleasing scenes throughout the attraction that highlighted a circus and fun house styled setting. With a simple yet somehow confusing mirror maze, a warped corridor and other haunting animatronics helped with the overall package of this maze. With a few fun house elements such as moving floors, it was convincing and done its job as a clown maze. The actors were a little light but the attraction was fairly lengthy and provided a few jumps and spooky moments, along with the odd laugh. Whilst the weakest of our night, it still scored over average and we would say a great introduction and more light hearted maze compared to the other 4 at the event!

2073 was a very interesting maze and theme compared to other attractions and themes we have seen over the years. Based on time travel going wrong, it had a mixture of a post nuclear apocalyptic world, but it was set in the future after trying to correct the wrongs from the past. The attraction was high in intensity and tension, with us having many moments of pure terror on our faces. Many of the sets were different themed from futuristic such as the time machine we stepped inside, but also the eerie dark sewers and streets we had to walk through to get there. The actors were some of the best we have come across, with them providing a detailed introduction story to the attraction, but also providing that base level fear to keep you moving along swiftly. Overall, we really enjoyed this unique & differently themed attraction and we loved the complete package, including the length which was possibly the longest maze we have done this season!

The Singularity

The Singularity looked like one of the most interesting concepts at York Hallowscream, being based on robots & humans, a hybrid being and all of the failed experiments being within too. It is worth noting if you read the stories on the website before, you can see how the mazes interlink with a storyline which you can easily miss, as no story is given to you before you enter the attraction. The introduction room was very cool, with a nurse-like character preparing you to be processed, with a laser gateway to pass through. You pass through numerous scenes which are disturbing and disorinating (sometimes split from the rest of the group which you rejoin after a short walk). With so many rooms that changed from dark to light, to strobe to other clever effects, this maze really ticked so many boxes for us. Being one of our favourites of the night and the most impressive, The best part of this attraction was a gigantic tall prison room which had rampaging characters roaming along accompanied by a slow strobe, with a wrecking ball swinging very close above your head. Whilst it was never going to hit you, the effects used with the chaos on the floor make it very realistic. Overall, a really cool concept and maze which will be one of our favourites for sure!
