Mechanics of the Heart by clueQuest review

A first for a paper based game! Print + Cut + Escape introduces personalisation in their new mission, Mechanics of the Heart. Mr & Mrs Q need your help to teach the MM7 drone what is love? Time to partner up with someone you love and tackle yet another mission in order to save the world against the Evil Professor.

clueQuest have released a new Print Cut Escape game and just in time for valentines! This paper based game has a series designed by clueQuest and whilst some of them are multi-part based stories, Mechanics of the Heart is a side mission and is all about love.

Mechanics of the Heart is a first for clueQuest and also a first as far as we know for any paper based escape room. It has an option to personalise the game before playing, leaving a secret message for your team or loved one throughout the game. As you solve the puzzles, it interlinks with the story whilst trying to get in your teams good books.

This valentines special is available to play now and is a perfect mission for anytime, not just for valentines. Costing £15 for a print at home version and £25 to have it printed and posted, it’s a great adventure for any duo.

This mission uses the least amount of paper than in any of the other Print Cut Escape games. Whilst you lose out on the pages, the puzzles still remain and the cleverness of how it all pieces together, is a true masterpiece.

The story follows;

“Mr. and Mrs. Q’s helpful and reliable reconnaissance droid, MM7, is starting to ask questions all robots inevitably ask, “What is Love?” and “How do you know you’re loved?” You’ll be tasked to help MM7 decipher the complex and puzzling ways of love in our world in order to help focus him on our daily mission to save the world from the villainous network of the Evil Professor.”

Mechanics of the Heart is the 7th game in the Print Cut Escape series and by now, we’ve become quite adaptive to how they hide answers in plain sight. With this said, they still introduce unique ways in every puzzle and no two puzzles are the same. From the cutting & folding elements, it creates a new layer to the game that keeps the game fresh and different to the last.

With every game, clueQuest make improvements and with Mechanics of the Heart, they do that once again. The personalisation is probably the main element that makes Mechanics of the Heart the game to play this valentines. The ability to add multiple hidden messages throughout the experience is not seen before and really adds a loving sense to this game.

We loved the introduction of the new character MM7, a reliable reconnaissance droid that wants to know what love is. The storyline is quirky and funny whilst keeping in brand with the rest of the games.

Mechanics of the Heart clueQuest Review

Storyline & Themeing: 7/10
clueQuest always delivers a story that fits within their universe, with sections that piece together to solve the immediate problem at hand; this one is no different, however the issue to solve is much less villainous. Perfectly fitting the valentines theme, you assist the robot that has everything, but a heart – and needs to learn emotions. A great bit of humour as usual is included and even some personalisation.

Puzzles & Flow: 7/10
Some of the puzzles can be quite testing, and others solved with ease. You do need to look sometimes for something more than first meets the eye. The puzzles flow well along with the story, and are surprising how long some can take – but if you get stuck, they have their useful multi-stage clue system available which ensures the solution isn’t given away instantly.

Uniqueness: 7/10
clueQuest have continued to develop their unique blended paper and virtual system. This one includes gamer personalisation (for the valentines touch), as well as a way to keep the players at the same stage by notifying when something has been completed and can automatically catch up.

Overall, clueQuest have released a beautiful & romantic game into the market which is a perfect way to share the love with everyone who needs it right now. Everything comes together seamlessly in this experience and the creativeness behind the scenes to make a paper based game immersive, always is a WOW moment! One of our favourite parts of the experience is that we both feature in one of the puzzles (unintentional or not we don’t know)!

Thank you to the team at clueQuest for allowing us to experience the love this valentines weekend. The game is available to purchase through their website and it’s a good game to play even after valentines! Till the next mission…
