Alton Towers Oktoberfest - 2020 Review

New for 2020 at the Alton Towers Resort is the Oktoberfest Family Fun Festival. The event located within the Theme Park provides the opportunity to enjoy German food & beverages, alongside lots of live entertainment from children’s party dances to an oompah band. With extended openings on selected dates there’s even a chance for rides in the dark!

It’s great that the park have been able to put on the event even during these tough times, this does however bring some challenges to be aware of. The event is entirely outdoors, and it is located in the perfect place on the front lawns (between towers street and the lake) with the towers as a great backdrop. There are a large number of socially distanced picnic benches (designed for groups of up to 6 people) along with other standup tables set around a main stage and a smaller second stage where from 2pm each day there is non-stop entertainment spread between both stages, as well as roaming actors so there’s never a dull moment. With the latest government ruling the park have adapted, and you must be served and consume any alcoholic beverages at your table. There are plenty of benches for everyone, though seemed to be a slight shortage of people serving which led to reasonable waits to order. Any other drinks, as well as food you can visit and order from the nearby stalls ranging from loaded fries, to sweet treats, and of course bratwurst sausages!

We visited on Sunday 27th September on a cool but sunny day which we wrapped up warm for and had a superb time. The park was relatively busy and ride availability wasn’t great at times, but we still managed to experience most attractions, and spent several hours enjoying the Oktoberfest atmosphere in the afternoon, as well as a few rides in the dark at the end of the day which the park looks absolutely stunning for. The highlights of our visit certainly had to be the lively atmosphere on the lawns for the event as well as some night rides on the coasters. It is excellent to get this reasonably rare opportunity to experience so much entertainment within the park and to experience the magic after dark!

The event runs every day until Sunday 4th October, with special late openings on Friday-Sunday where most attractions stay open until 8pm, and the entertainment continues until 8:30pm (weekdays are 6pm). The entertainment and extended park openings are included with your daily park entry. We’d recommend a visit as it’s great to experience the atmosphere at the park, and we really hope the event returns next year, and with potentially less restrictions the possibilities are endless! Coming up next at the resort for more experiences are the Scarefest and Firework events, will you be visiting any of these?
