Screamfest Burton 2021 Review

Screamfest Burton has resurrected for 2021. Coming back from the dead since its haitius in 2020 due to the pandemic, the event has new and updated haunts, more entertainment and the Screamfest Six!

Whilst we missed the event back in 2020, 2019 event was one we have not forgotten easily. Screamfest Burton always has surprises and 2021 came with plenty. We see La Theatre Noir replace Insomnia, Creed Farm replace Dia De Los Muertos, Freakout go on tour and the return of Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo & Love Hurts!

Whilst the 5 scare attractions are the highlight, Screamfest has so much entertainment to keep you busy in-between. With several different stage shows in the main hub area, from bands, dancers and other weird acts. Food and drink is available along with sweet treats, merchandise and fairground rides. With roaming actors and other side stall attractions, you can see how your evening can disappear in a blink of an eye! This is the busiest we’ve seen the event over the years in terms of the volume of entertainment going on.

Love Hurts

“Welcome to the Diced Heart Pub. Owned by Professor Heart, he wants you to find his your soul mate at one of his famous speed dating nights.

Love Hurts returns to the Screamfest Burton lineup as one of the long-standing attractions that really needs no changing. This attraction remains pretty unchanged from what we remember but this isn’t a bad thing, with it always being a solid scare maze. The scares were strong as always with the most actors we’ve ever seen in there before. The themeing set from each scene is always incredible and the storyline flows throughout. The actors were very energetic & creepy, screaming and jumping around everyone. Whilst at this point we know the ending, it always gets us!

Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo

“Come on down to the Zombee Zoo, the best day out in all the south! Have we got some sights for y’all. Zombie Zoo celebrates its 2nd Anniversary…and we’ve only had 362 days worth of zombie disasters! Hillbilly Joe invites you to the best day out in the south!”

The return of another attraction and for it to celebrate its second year, after being new in 2019. This fun haunt has a simple yet effective theme, being a zombie zoo. The scares are quite jumpy but with some theatrical and actually very fun. This mixture helps give it depth and character as an attraction. The actors were the true highlight in this maze, with so many different types of zombies to meet, including some new ones we didn’t see in its opening year. Another strong year for Hillbilly Joe and his Zombee Zoo!

Le Theatre Noir

“Le Theatre Noir presents THE SISTERS OF DEATH. For one night only witness their ritual of the soul. Come one… Come all…”

A brand new attraction for 2021 that replaces Insomnia. Le Theatre Noir presents The Sisters of Death, a unique attraction which we’ve started to see more places do. A slight disappointment with it being called a maze when it’s not, this attraction is more of a show experience which takes place. Compared to previous mazes that used to be situated in this building, it’s upsetting to see it be changed for something new however, we are sure to most customers this will be enjoyed as something different. Sometimes attractions aren’t well received in its opening year and we believe this fits that category but, we are sure this concept may become more popular in future additions if it did return.

Freakout On Tour

“The Funhouse is not as abandoned as it looks…Freakout has risen from the ashes.”

Freakout on Tour has been updated for 2021, as being around now for some time at the Screamfest event. With it usually being one of the weak mazes each year, they have given it a new story, a new setup with more characters, more clowns and more scares! The scares remained pretty much on par with the rest of the mazes, with the clowns having plenty of surprises up their sleeve. With some returning scenes and sets, it was great to see the new with the original. The story was so much clearer and detailed, starting from the queue line audio, through to the introductory scene and through the attraction. We enjoyed seeing this maze develop and become a much scarier and enjoyable maze!

Creed Farm

“Creed Farm provides fresh meat…of the highest quality. Come on down and experience the harvest for yourself.”

Creed Farm is another brand new for 2021, replacing our favourite attraction of the event and of the 2019 season, Dia De Los Muertos. Whilst bitter of the loss of our favourite maze, we wanted to give Creed Farm a fresh opportunity to see what Screamfest could do with this space. We do see the loss of some of our favourite features, such as the hayride and the happy theme but what was given back was a much darker and scarier theme. The scares therefore were beyond terrifying, where so many times we were caught off guard and were left running, falling over and jumping out of our skin. The themeing of the indoor sets were good and the effects used like smoke filled any voids needed. The outside sections were in a corn maze which is always spooky at the dead of nights. The actors did a fantastic job in this haunt, giving a range of scare tactics, building tension and getting your heart racing, or blending into the scenery. Due to the range of different effects and how the maze is presented, it came together as a complete package that was impressive.

Overall, Screamfest Burton 2021 is one of the best years this event has ever been. All of the mazes are strong, solid attractions that don’t fall short. The value of money for mazes and entertainment is fantastic, especially when talking to other guests who attended this evening.

Nights are already selling out so we highly recommend you get your tickets sooner rather than later. We thank the Screamfest Burton team for allowing us to come and experience the event once again, and allowing us to take some footage of the attractions.
