Seven Dwarves Mining Mission Review

Improbable Escapes showcase some of their top rated Canadian escape rooms to the world with the power of the web. Seven Dwarves Mining Mission is a family friendly escape room challenge in the wonderful universe of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves!

Improbable Escapes is usually an escape room organisation in Kingston, Canada. Hosting multiple uniquely themed rooms, they have worked their way to being the number 1 thing to do in Kingston over the years. Created and owned by two creative women, Emma & Melissa have made it their company ethos to be motivated to continuously innovate and improve.

Whilst the world suffers with the pandemic, they have adapted their experiences to the whole world and created digital versions of the most loved physical games. Hosted by the team over zoom, you can play the game without having to be in Canada!

They currently have 4 experiences converted to an online experience with groups of 2 to 7 being allowed to join forces to tackle the virtual rooms. Costing $25 Canadian dollars plus taxes per player, you can pick one with a great range of times and dates daily.

We took on Seven Dwarves Mining Mission, which is based on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves story.

“One year has passed since the seven dwarves helped Snow White defeat the evil queen, and now they’ve retired to a quiet cottage deep in the forest.

But happily ever after is never that easy, and evil is rising once again! The evil queen’s followers plan to use the poison apple to bring about her malevolent return. Snow White has tasked you to destroy the devious fruit once and for all, and rumour has it that the only way to rid the world of its evil is to cast it into the very centre of the earth.

Now it falls to you to save the day. Answer the call, hoist your pickaxe, and prepare to dig deeper than ever before to defeat the evil queen!”

The experience is played over Zoom with your game host having a camera with them so you can see and explore the room. Using a range of simple voice commands, you have 60 minutes to destroy the evil apple. This is accompanied with a website which has images of the puzzles and room in more detail. This allows you to see things in more detail and saves you time asking to go back and forth with the game master. It is one of the best executed online inventories alongside a virtual escape room we’ve experienced.

The experience has a series of rooms which are all amazing and themed to such a high standard. Every little part of the room was as you would expect and we could only wish we could see it with our own eyes. Whilst at a first glance you can easily become overwhelmed with the amount of puzzles, once you get started, it starts to seem very possible. With the physical room having only a 36% escape rate, it is a great challenge virtually too!

Seven Dwarves Mining Mission Review

Storyline & Themeing: 9/10
Following the concept from Snow White, they had a great fairytale-like story which continued through the series of rooms. It’s not often you see themes and stories based like this and we struggle to see why. Along with the high level of detail in the themeing, you wouldn’t be disappointed with their sets.

Puzzles & Flow: 8/10
The amount of puzzles in the game is incredible. At first, you think how can you manage them all in 60 minutes but, they are at that perfect level of not being too easy but challenging. There are multiple rooms which progresses through the story. Each room has its own set of puzzles which flow well and are non-linear so it allows you to choose the order to suit.

Uniqueness: 7/10
Whilst the game is a typical escape room, they have a few very unique puzzles along with a rare type of theme of the game. We love it has a more family friendly feel compared to the more typical dark theme we see more often in escape rooms.

Overall, Seven Dwarves Mining Mission was a fantastic fairy tale themed experience which was enjoyed virtually. Whilst the room has had to have some minor changes, the room does not disappoint in any aspect and to be playing a Canadian escape room whilst not being in Canada itself, is pretty cool. We loved the range of puzzles they could offer throughout the 60 minutes and how engaging it all was. A challenge for 2 players but with more people, you can destroy the apple much quicker than we did. We completed the mission with just over 7 minutes spare!

We have to say a massive thank you to Liz who hosted our game alongside the rest of the Improbable Escapes team for allowing us to play & review this experience. Fancy joining in with this fairy tale experience? You can by heading to their website and booking directly!
