Storyline & Themeing: 9/10
Swamp Motel have been very clever, and made the games with enough backstory and individual detail that they can be played as standalone challenges, but they work even better when played in order as they do paint a bigger picture. Mermaids Tongue follows on from Plymouth Point and takes a darker turn with new characters and further developing the story with lots of twists.

Puzzles & Flow: 7/10
We feel it is much less of a time sensitive game, but what’s so great is it’s the storyline that pulls you into the experience and the tense moments it creates. We hardly noticed the time but were on edge and determined to speedily get through the big variety of puzzles throughout the web and within the documents on the game interface. We completed it with a significant time spare, but still took over an hour! The game seemed to flow much better than Plymouth Point.

Uniqueness: 8/10
Swamp Motel have successfully created a blended game which includes integrated videos, ‘live’ assistance, websites, documents and even using a phone. It’s a unique style to manage to fit all that in especially with such a detailed storyline. The overall game interface for Mermaids Tongue was really bizarre but worked brilliantly.

Overall, The Mermaid’s Tongue was a high intensity experience that had you on the edge of your seat up until the game finished. With their first experience making you question what just happened, The Mermaid’s Tongue adds even more answers and leaves you craving for the finale of the trilogy, being The Kindling Hour. With the new interface, some new concept of puzzles and keeping the story within the same universe, its all a recipe for a virtual experience that will make you want to experience all 3 adventures.
