The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley in Ripon, Yorkshire is reportedly set to be demolished. Whilst the parks socials and website have not made an official announcement, Harrogate Live have reported that the CEO of the group which operate Lightwater Valley has confirmed that The Ultimate would be dismantled.
The Ultimate opened in July 1991 and took the record for longest rollercoaster in the world which shone a light on both the ride itself and the small regional British park it’s located in. The rollercoaster featured a unique terrain hugging layout with two large lift hill structures, travelling across fields and into woodland areas; it has a total length of 1 and a half miles!
The rollercoaster took its last rides in 2019, and sadly did not open for the 2020 season and has remained closed ever since. The park has shifted target audience to families with young children, removing several other thrilling rides at the resort. The Ultimate remained standing but not operating with its future uncertain, but it certainly did not fit into the park’s new direction.
We last rode The Ultimate in 2019 and whilst it is a rough and boisterous ride experience, the setting and history surrounding the ride remained truly special and worthwhile. This latest confirmation that the ride will be dismantled, will change the backdrop and lineup of the park forever. Did you ever get to experience the rollercoaster?
