Rebellion Land – Walibi Belgium

We don’t usually like to compare things, especially between Scream parks, theme parks and abroad events, but we couldn’t help not think of the Tulleys Wastelands area when here. Whilst the scale of the Wastelands area and its fire show is incredible, this is what Wastelands wants to (and should) be. Walking through the pathway to a normally closed off area of the theme park, many actors are already causing scares with a chainsaw and even an axle grinder present. Loud music is heard and lights catching your eyes as you approach; the DJ plays house/EDM music and the impressive lighting package brings one of the best party atmospheres we’ve seen at an event. The area is full of actors, mingling in with the crowd, stood on pieces of themeing around the area including on top the shipping containers, and even dancers with the masked DJ! We spent so much time here enjoying the festival vibes and having a beverage or two, whilst trying to have eyes in the back of our head wondering when an actor will next pop up. And just when we thought the area couldn’t get anymore crazy, they have fire effects dotted around, as well as some mini fire magic acts, and even a stunt show featuring BMX, parkour & motorbike tricks!

Inferno Fire Show – Parc Asterix

Fire shows seem to be a staple attraction show at Halloween events. All of them tend to follow quite a similar structure of people dancing within fire, swallowing the fire, and breathing out balls of fire to an atmospheric soundtrack. However, we have never seen anything like Inferno at Parc Asterix during their late night Peur Sur Le Parc event. The stage was already pre-prepared with fire all around the floor setting the scene well. 3 skinhead characters dressed in hellish gear and covered in detailed makeup and ‘tattoos’ all over. They genuinely looked the part, and throughout didn’t appear to break character, screaming, sticking their tongue out and just generally looking crazy. The real firestarters with large handheld weapons including a huge scythe creating a massive wave of flames. The show went on for over 15 minutes and no section was too long featuring so many different types of fire tricks. Our highlights were certainly the flamethrowers and the guy with the massive balls (probably literally too) filled with hot coal swinging around creating tonnes of sparks and a wall of fire consuming him at times. So much more than your average fire Magic show.

Roaming Entertainment – Tulley’s Shocktoberfest

Tulleys is billed as Europes largest scare park with 10 scare attractions and so much more. The scale of the event is so impressive, and sometimes the bigger the event you may think you lose the atmosphere, but that is certainly not the case with Tulleys. Two stages and a fire show certainly keep the party alive, but the real credit to Tulleys are their roaming actors who seem to be everywhere throughout the night, we just couldn’t miss them. From creepy twins giving our camera a scare at the beginning of the night. To two mummies having us in hysterics with their array of jokes and didn’t want to let us head onto our next maze as we were enjoying their company too much. On our way out at the end of the night we bumped into what appeared to be a trio of peasant villagers who had apparently never seen a camera or phone before and were intrigued by the ugly selfie of them; they were a great laugh to the end of our night and left us on even more of a high.

Clown House Nottingham

We love that each Halloween season someone somewhere, brings along a new and unique concept. Sometimes with these new events and attractions they can leave a lot to be desired, but this wasn’t the case with Clown House. An adult only event where clowns take over a children’s soft play area. We had researched the venue prior and seen how small the play area looked and went along with an open mind of how it would be pulled off. We were expecting a dark creepy vibe, however what we got was much more of a fun atmosphere, but still fully delivered on the scares! With disco lights and a party Halloween soundtrack to match, the most energetic clowns ever were really terrorising everyone. The event was limited capacity and enough clowns to ensure the perfect balance of suspense and interaction. We’ve never been so tired, or scared yet had so much fun at the same time being chased around a play area, through tunnels and even down the slides right behind us! 

Haunted Latern Technology – Primevil

Despite doing so many mazes year on year we rarely ever see this unique revolutionary lighting technology in use in attractions, so for PrimEVIL to have it in one of their mazes, was just an unexpected shock to us. A few lanterns were distributed around the group and being used to being fooled by lighting props not being legitimate technology we set off on our way. To our disbelief when the colour changed and then proceeded to turn off and flash at key points throughout the maze. Whilst we found the pacing, lack and use of actors throughout the maze preventing us from rating it higher, the haunted lantern technology worked flawlessly each go and was a real highlight to experience!
