Deadlocked Escape Rooms have collaborated with The Brunel Museum to create our most cinematic adventure yet. Can you help Joey Beamish as she travels through time?
Deadlocked Escape Rooms are back with another virtual experience to keep everyone occupied at home. For anybody who does not know who Deadlocked are, they are an Escape Room business with multiple locations across the UK. During lockdown, they have created numerous virtual experiences, mostly collaborating with another business such as the Movember charity.
With Tunnelling Through Time joining the party, they now have 4 virtual experiences you can play from home. All varying in difficulty and themes but, all of them guaranteed to test your escaping skills.
Tunnelling Through Time is a collaboration between Deadlocked Escape Rooms and The Brunel Museum in London. At £15 for a copy of the game to play straight away, you enter their most cinematic universe to date. All purchases do go to the Brunel Museum directly and therefore, it’s all for a great cause!
“What starts as a simple task of helping contractor Joey Beamish with some network tests soon explodes into a time travelling romp through the true stories of the Thames Tunnel.”
Tunnelling Through Time has some fantastic stats which you should know prior to playing. These are as follows;
- 12 minutes of high quality video creating what we think is the most cinematic virtual escape room ever.
- Approximately 90-120 minutes of puzzle filled gameplay.
- Based on the true history of the Thames Tunnel (N.B. Time Travel may be a little artistic license)
- A tonne of fully voiced characters and in-character hints available throughout.
- Start and stop whenever you want. Your progress is automatically saved in case you need to break for any reason.
- You’ll have the entire internet at your fingertips for your sleuthing, and nothing is out of bounds.
- 100% of the proceeds go directly to the charity (minus credit card fees to the banks).
- 1-6 players, playable exactly how you want; either 1 person sharing screen or everyone logging in to experience everything themselves!
- Accessibility options for colour blind players and subtitles for those that need/prefer them.
What we could see straight away from the moment the game starts is that they keep to this cinematic universe promise. We loved how the experience had so many different types of interactive puzzles, different themes across times and the amount of characters. All of these shown through some great acting and video clips from start to finish.
The experience even has some clips from the Brunel Museum, which is great for players to then go and see this after playing the game, stepping into the same place as where the adventure begins!
Storyline & Themeing: 8/10
With 12 minutes of video, full voiced characters and so many different time periods brought to life in the experience, it ticks so many boxes for a catchy story. It’s not everyday you can travel through time (virtually) to take part in the true stories behind the world’s first underwater tunnel. Education & fun!
Puzzles & Flow: 8/10
The puzzles created by Deadlocked are always a challenge. With a nice range of difficulty within this adventure, it was great to see some new interactive puzzles and how they have created these within the relevant themes. They flowed effortlessly with the story and with the hint system being in the characters voices, it didn’t break from the immersive setting.
Uniqueness: 8/10
The experiences by Deadlocked are always pretty unique, as they always find a way of making something new or not seen. Some of the puzzles really caught us off guard with how different they were, with some of the designs seen before from previous games. Alongside this, the collaboration is genius as it takes an important message from the Brunel Museum and puts it in a fun way for a new audience to discover.
Overall, Tunnelling Through Time was a perfect collaboration for a great cause. The amazing experience steps back in time with interesting characters, unique puzzles & mini games. The diverse mix of escape room puzzles to fun mini game styled puzzles, opened up a enjoyable way to learn about some of the true stories of the Thames tunnel.
The amazing team at Deadlocked kindly let us review the game prior to its public release. Tunnelling Through Time is now available to play and has it’s own website to find the more fine details and to book to play. We managed to complete the experience in an embarrassing time of just under 2 hours, with a fair few hints alongside some other fun stats! We would say could you beat us but, we know you already have!
