Questomatica is one of Amsterdam’s best escape rooms which hosts two real life adventures where you become the main character in the story. Located in the city and easily found by Google Maps, Questomatica was where we decided to visit on a recent trip to Amsterdam to see what they had to offer.
Questomatica currently offers two experiences, Wake Up & Arcade Invasion. Both games have no digit locks and use technology and other techniques for their unique puzzles, riddles and tasks which you need to solve to succeed.
The small team behind this company have used a number of techniques to build the story and immersion of their games. Use of lights, music and theming have been designed to make you feel like you’re inside a game or movie. All being accompanied by a detailed storyline.
Out of the two experiences, we took on the challenge with Wake Up!

Before our game began, we met with a lovely host who introduced herself and the business, set the rules and expectations and made us feel welcome by offering us a drink of water. With a quick breakdown of what to expect, our experience began as we entered Matilda’s bedroom…
Storyline & Theming: 9/10
Wake Up really is based on the story and upon stepping in the room, this is made evident from the pre story and theming you immediately see. As the story starts as Matilda is asleep, the room starts in darkness and has a start up sequence prior to any escaping can begin. Across the whole escape experience, this immersive storytelling is kept and constantly used to keep you engaged. The theming matched typical rooms you would find in the house, such as Matilda’s room matched a child’s bedroom but, it had an eerie vibe to it. The dollhouse plays a big part into the story, theming and puzzles and throughout the game, we were constantly impressed how the story and theme come together to create an immersive adventure.
Puzzles & Flow: 8/10
The puzzles were very interesting as they have no digit locks, so traditional keys and padlocks were not to be seen. This means more technology based puzzles were involved but, not as you would expect. Not everything required high tech or state of the art tech, as attention was more in the detail and using some very fun props. The flow of the room is kept to a good pace and we kept a steady pace for most of the room, with us having the one moment where we struggled with one puzzle. We also struggled towards the end but, thankfully, had enough time to correct our mistakes to get out in time. We loved the range of different puzzles in the room, with it really encouraging to explore and playing with items to move on in the experiences, which we have not seen enough of in other escape rooms.
Uniqueness: 9/10
Wake Up is a pretty unique room for a number of ways. The storyline is very different to your typical theme, with it being based on a child’s dream / nightmare but, with it not being a horror themed room. You also have some very clever puzzles and tech which we’ve not seen before. It was great to have a clue system that linked with the room instead of not breaking the immersion and every puzzle, tool and prop fit with the theme and wasn’t random or confusing.
Overall, Wake up up Questomatica is one of our favourite rooms we have played this year. With the technology element of the experience, it really does allow new players to have a good chance of escaping, whilst escape room addicts still have a great challenge in working out how this room works and how to solve all the mysteries within.
This room can allow groups of 5 to play and costs €26 per person depending on when you book and how many players. Groups of 2, 3 and 4 can also play plus, If you don’t like the theme of this room, Arcade Invasion is based on the 90s classic games and looks to be a whole different type of challenge!
