After a year’s break due to the pandemic, Winter Wonderland has finally returned to Hyde Park in London, bringing along some of the biggest and best fairground rides in Europe, plus other games, entertainment, stalls and food & drink options.
The main difference this year, whilst still under threat of the pandemic is more restricted capacity, and charging an entry fee to manage this better. This small entry fee can be discounted for free however when you spend £20 per person on attractions, rides, games and food & drink in the same transaction.
The event has various pre-bookable activities including ice skating, a circus show, an ice sculpture exhibit, an ice bar and more, these are apparently very popular and do sell out well in advance! There’s a Christmas market featuring a large number of stalls to get some gifts or treat yourself. Food, drink and entertainment options seem bigger than ever, with plenty of bars, food stalls, mini entertainment stages, and of course the large Bavarian village area.
The fairground rides are a huge part of Winter Wonderland and they bring some of the biggest and best rides in the whole of Europe. Munich Looping has returned to the event which is the largest travelling rollercoaster in the world. Making an appearance for the first time is Airborne which is a huge next generation ‘booster’ style attraction standing at 65 meters tall you really cannot miss it in the skyline. Many other favourites including XXL & Hangover have come back again, plus some other new and exciting rides.
The new paid entry system certainly reduced queuing upon entry and we headed straight in after a very short wait. On our visit, it felt like one of the busiest daytime visits we’ve ever had over the years, it wasn’t too much, but it was certainly noticeable and caused some queues on the rides, in particular Wilde Maus XXL (we waited 25 minutes). Overall we still really enjoyed our few hours visiting the event, and made us realise how nice it is to have the event back with the huge selection of rides, and electric atmosphere.
To book tickets and find out more information about the event, visit the website and check their social media pages. New updated COVID entry measures apply from 15th December, please see theirs and the government websites.
