An immersive cocktail making class with a hint of technology, science and wand magic. Wands & Wizard Exploratorium is one of London’s most quirky venues located in the Soho area which offer numerous experiences for all wizards & witches of any ages.
The creator company, The Cauldron is behind the magic, which started as a Kickstarter project to be the world’s first wizard pub in London, before transforming and franchising its way to hundreds and thousands of non-magical beings around the world!
“The Cauldron® Company’s mission is “to bring fantasy to life with science, technology, and design, and to create an inclusive community of people who believe that magic is possible—it’s just a matter of perspective.” We call this The Magic of Things.”
Wands & Wizard Exploratorium have 3 different experiences hosted within their venue. All 3 experiences are best to book online and prior to visiting. Outside of these experiences, they do have some sweet treats that you can purchase in a small shop as well as some cool interactive educational toys. These include using a magic wand to activate them (which you can purchase or make at this venue), these can also be educational and customisable such as a light up cube which teaches kids about coding!
The three experiences they offer are a Magic Wand Experience, Potions Making Experience & Wizard Afternoon Tea, which are all different and for a range of audiences.
“The Magic Wand Experience at the Wands & Wizard Exploratorium® is a BRAND NEW interactive retail experience unlike any other in existence. Step into the imagined worlds from your childhood to design and construct your own working, illuminated magic wand and bring it to life through the magic of science.”
“Wizard Afternoon Tea at The Wands & Wizard Exploratorium® is a social-distance friendly, interactive tea-brewing experience where you step into the imagined worlds of your childhood through the subtle science of tea brewing, molecular gastronomy, and technology. It has been specially designed for social distancing!”
Both these experiences seem very exciting and to know a little more, including costs and availability, we recommend you check directly with them.
The final experience is the Potions Making, which we got to experience with the magical team. This experience lasts just under 2 hours and offers 3 cocktails (or mocktails), 2 of which you make and 1 you get to magically pour.
The first drink is some Unicorn Blood, which is sacrificed by consent by the Unicorn Artemus. This alcoholic drink was our favourite of the night in terms of the taste and how it was produced. Which required magic words, a wand and even some politeness. Failure to follow can result in the Unicorn spitting at you…
Once everybody has their drink, you are then taken to a sitting area on one of two floors, which is where the rest of the experience continues in your separate booking groups.
Whilst you enjoy some Unicorn Blood at your crafting tables, you then get to start on the next 2 cocktails for your experience. You are given some time to of course enjoy your first drink. At each crafting table, you have a wizard station which had many different elements to it, a magical wand to operate it and a menu of cocktails you can create (and additional cocktails & shots you can purchase).
We had a choice of 4 different cocktails to make during our evening and each pair can select 2 of these 4. So with a group of 4, you can order all 4 and try each drink they have to offer at present. We believe these drinks are regularly updated and do change.
Our first cocktail included a range of different viles & containers which had a selection of ingredients in to create this magical drink. Each cocktails comes with a handy crafting guide, breaking down what each ingredient is, if it contains alcohol and so on. Sometimes the creation requires assistance from a magic assistant which can be seen floating around the area. In this case, he provided us a valuable timepiece which gave the drink a magical bubbling effect which… never stopped producing bubbles!
Our second cocktail required another set of instructions and more help with magical assistance. This one being tequila based, this meant fire! This drink was cool to create but had the heat when it came to drinking it.
Both drinks were so much fun to create using the crafting stations and we could see from others in the room and the other drinks on offer, that every drink is so different in the creation process, to the special powers they hold, to even how they taste.
The experience was made more by the magical assistances who, with their quirky personalities, came to assist when summoned upon (indeed, with a spell), and any questions, problems or anything else you may need.
We also loved the use of the wands and the crafting stations powers. Whilst we only used some of its features, it was great to see some of its hidden features which only the ones paying super close attention will spot!
Overall, The Wizard Exploratorium has so much to offer as a thrilling magical experience. To be able to create & craft your own cocktails with the use of technology & science is such a buzz alone. With the help of the magical assistants, the theming and the building, it all comes together as one of the quirkiest venues in London.
We very much recommend if you love the wizarding and magical world, then to experience either this or the Wizard Afternoon Tea experience, which seem to have very similar crafting vibes. All tickets, further information and opening times can be found via their website.
Thank you to the team who gifted us 2 Potion Making Experiences during our visit, whilst showing us around the full venue. We enjoyed every second and look forward to maybe visiting in the future to make our own wand or even try some tea!
