Forest Of Freaks: Showman’s Rest

“June 22, 1920, members of the Rellik Brothers Circus were asleep in the rear cars of their train when it was involved in a horrific accident. A second train went smashing in the Circus cars, killing many instantly. The majority of the dead were Clowns & Performers, who were buried at the scene, which is still known today as the Showmen’s Rest! We invite you, if you dare, to enter The Forest of Freaks – Showmen’s Rest! For the star of tonight’s performance is YOU!’

This was the first attraction you experience on your journey, as you walk along the woodlands and experience an abandoned circus set. It was very nicely and heavily themed and also had some great character interaction. Don’t upset the already troubled Showmen however, as they will send you along your way alone! With a derelict theme to it and a great story, this was a great introduction to the event although only a handful of actors. 

Totally Tropical Terror

“Descend into the swamps if you dare, as the Voodoo Queen is lurking in the shadows performing her sadistic twisted rituals on anyone who dares disturb her. Her evil black magic and violent streak has disfigured her servants who roam the night in a zombie-like state looking for fresh victims!” 

Our second maze of the evening was Totally Tropical Terror, an outdoor maze along a dark pathway. With no introductory scene into this maze except from a screen with the logo, our experience started pretty quickly. Sadly, this was the weakest maze for us at Yorkshire Scare Grounds with the lack of scares and actors. With it being quite open, the scares were always going to be hard to get. With the few actors within a maze we had seen, it was hard for them to cover the space of the attraction. The themeing throughout this outdoor maze was ideal an and they utilised a walkway through a woods area. Overall, we felt this should have been more of a scarezone, than a scare maze.

Black Death

“An infestation of rats and fleas have brought the Plague to the village with human parasites abounding the spread of the disease throughout the village! The Plague Doctor awaits any sign of infection – you’re Dead Meat!’ 

Over half way through now on our experience and next up was an infested village with some not so happy residents. We had a short 2 minute break before starting this attraction but this was welcomed. We had an actor introduce the story of this maze which told us about the villagers and what to watch out for. The scares were pretty low in this maze but they made up for it in creepiness and story. The same actor kept appearing all over the place, as we came in and out of several small huts. The story was expanded clearly and effortlessly by the actors throughout the attraction, and the themeing matched what was expected. A creepy & eerie attraction in the dark of the night for sure.

Hospital Hell

“A controversial Nazi medical research Hospital set up by the infamous Dr Viktor Blick, invites you in for a guided tour of his state of the art facilities. With his obsessive fascination in Egyptology and bizarre experimentation, Dr Blick has some fascinating news to share! Will you become an In Patient that never gets out!” 

The final attraction on our 40 minute journey at Yorkshire Scare Ground and of course, it’s a creepy horror hospital with scary doctors and experiments. This maze had several actors out the front, who kept you more than entertained with the stories of what happened. Probably even more creepy is when an actor came out of the maze and decided to become very fond of one of us at the back of the group! The scares were impactful, fast and just didn’t stop. Definitely the most scared we had been at the event. With the story being scary already, the theme of the maze came naturally with all the scenes being noticeably superb. The actors were the true highlight of Hospital Hell, from the front of the group getting jumped scared every few seconds, to the back of the group getting terrorised by actors that lurked in the shadows. The ending was unexpected but a feature we’ve seen before however not enough. The perfect ending to our terrifying experience inside Hospital Hell and Yorkshire Scare Grounds!
