Fright Nights at Thorpe Park Resort celebrates its 21st Birthday this year as the island transforms once again, filled with scare mazes, zones and experiences designed to test your fear. For the 21st Birthday, Fright Nights have taken a theme of unlocking your deepest darkest nightmares as the award winning event has new surprises around the park whilst still including all your favourite rides in the dark!
Fright Nights has changed a little over the years and whilst your park ticket still includes access to the Fright Nights event and added thrilling activities, do note some are now upcharge. This includes the 3 scare mazes for 2022 being Creek Freak Massacre, Trailers and new for 2022, Survival Games. Another upcharge attraction which is new for 2022 is The Terminal, which is an audio based experience produced by Darkfield, who are known to produce top quality audio based experiences across the globe!
Below you can find our scare ratings, images and TikTok’s of the 2022 event alongside our comments and reviews.
Survival Games – New for 2022
“Survival Games are coming, giving you the opportunity to prove your worth & elevate your social status. Will you choose the path to victory, or will it be game over in this gruesome scare maze?”
The brand new maze for 2022 and Thorpe’s biggest investment in a maze to date. The theme and story matched the style of hunger games / squid games with that you are a contestant fighting for your freedom and survival. This was set very clear from the start when entering the maze. Whilst the actors at Fright Nights have touched guests in previous years, this maze clearly advertises the actors will touch you and you will be split. The actors did just that as they grabbed you, pushed you and got in your face! With quite a large space to fill, there was plenty of actors roaming around this literal maze. We say literal maze as the exit isn’t something you’ll find in a hurry, with us lasting up to 10-15 minutes inside Survival Games. With the endless corridors and different themed sections, jump scares were very common and sometimes with the same actor! Overall, we loved this new attraction at Fright Nights and can see it being very popular amongst guests as something a little different.
Creek Freak Massacre – The Final Cut
“With their livelihood at stake and the threat of demolition looming over the sawmill, the bonkers Buckwheats have cranked up the chaos for one final rampage in this terrifying scare maze.”
Creek Freak Massacre is back for one final cut and they are not happy about a certain Project Exodus. This linking with the developments at the park of the new ride in future years, the Buckwheats want your help in stopping it so they can keep the family business running. We love the link of the story with current developments whilst the maze still has its creepy and scary sense about it. The cast is as energetic as ever and we’ve not seen a team this scary for some time! We were left running and jumping out of the way from all the chainsaw wielding maniacs. Whilst the maze remains the same fundamentally from previous years, the small updates in the story and the new team all add to making it better than it has ever been, giving it that big send off!
Trailers
“Witness the power of film come to life in Trailers. No fear will go unmissed as you find yourself stuck inside an even more intense never-ending loop of terror in this spooky scare maze!?”
The award winning maze is back again this Fright Nights and whilst everything seems very similar, look again. Many rooms have had some minor improvements and the introduction takes a different story than before too. The cast were the best we’ve ever seen in Trailers, really getting up close, being loud and coming out of absolutely everywhere! We were left screaming in room after room, even after knowing what to expect, which is amazing for the maze & cast to do. It remains a strong firm favourite amongst the other mazes and attractions this year and does not fall behind as a returning scare attraction.
@thrillnation Survival Games is the awesome brand new maze at @thorpepark Fright Nights and is certainly their most ambitious yet! The Terminal – New for 2022
“Pack your bags and enter your cryo-pod aboard The Terminal for a one-way trip to an intergalactic utopia. Sit back, close your eyes & prepare for a NEW out-of-this-world audio scare experience.”
The Terminal is the brand new scare experience produced by the team at Darkfield Productions. We managed to check out some of their other work during lockdown, but as our first location visit we were excited to experience what they had to offer. The Terminal is audio based with a short introduction scene. Darkfield rely on the audio to create more of a psychological experience, putting you in a setting that you aren’t truly in and playing tricks on the mind. The experience is set in the dark and there are some intergalactic helpers making sure you are all okay prior to the experience starting. The audio was gruesome, disturbing and pretty terrifying! Whilst being very different to what usually is on offer from Thorpe Park at Fright Nights, this was a great add on attraction and is worth visiting if you want to try something different to actors jumping out or a walk through experience.
The Crows of Mawkin Meadow
“Venture even deeper into the cursed village of Mawkin Meadow and unearth the origins of the infamous Crows. Trek through the fields of corn and hope your presence goes unnoticed.”
As a firm favourite from last year, it was great to see The Crows returning for 2022. This year comes with an additional path using the previous SAW ALIVE queueline, or you can continue with the original route on the pathway. With some minor improvements, we definitely found this to be the scariest scare zone and we’ve never seen so many crows all in one go! It was great to see an introduction character adding more to the story layer of this zone and equally, the new route allowed for some pretty big scares with their new hiding spots. Our favourite moment was catching this scare zone at closing, as all the Crows followed us out and when you’re outnumbered by them, it is pretty freaky. Overall, a strong experience for 2022!
Death Doors – New for 2022
“Venture into The Locksmith’s lair & come face-to-face with 21 daunting doors, each hiding a sinister secret. Will you dare to enter this scare zone and knock on Death’s Doors?!”
Death Doors is a brand new scare zone for 2022 and links with the park wide theme of doors, keys and phobias. Using the pathway by the banana boat, a large keyhole entrance stands and takes you into this one way scare zone. Within Death Doors is multiple doorways which you can knock on and multiple creatures may or may not appear. From demon’s to a scary santa, expect the unexpected as you venture deeper and deeper. This was a very interesting concept for Thorpe Park and it was great to see something different to a regular scare zone, giving the option and interactivity more so to the guests. Whilst not as scary as some of the other zones, it was fun seeing the creative side of this zone and not knowing what creatures there may be. There are a few hidden surprises too thrown in for great measure!
Amity High vs Lycanthorpe Graduation Sucks
“It’s graduation night for the students of Amity High, but can the two schools put their differences aside or will their bitter rivalry overpower the celebration & end the night in tragedy in this freaky scare zone?”
Another fan favourite returning for 2022 with a brand new dance show. We loved the new additions which included a new setup with even more lights and when the show was on, the whole area was flooded in red and blue lights. The song choices were as good as ever and the cast had a lot of energy and really do give their best, whatever the weather. This scare zone remains super interactive outside of the show times as the characters roam outside Stealth, and its nice to see the story progress each year too. Will it be the last year for Amity High & Lycanthorpe? Regardless, its a must see when visiting this Fright Nights!
Creek Freaks Unchained
“An uncertain future lies over Creek Woods Sawmill, forcing the Buckwheats to flee their land. This year, the deranged family are roaming the island looking for sweet revenge!”
The Buckwheats are not only located in the sawmill for 2022, they will be roaming the entire island. Whilst slowly being taken away from their patch, they now are more angry and crazier than before. As with any roaming characters, you may or may not get to see them. We managed to cross paths with them a few times and had some short, sharp engagements with these not so friendly people. Whilst we believe this is nothing standout, if you do get to see them roaming around, you best watch your back!
Birthday Bash?!?
“You’re invited to Hattie and Hugo’s 21st Birthday day Bash… but these are no ordinary twins! Don’t be fooled by the bright balloons & shimmering streamers.”
Birthday Bash returns for another key celebration at Thorpe Park. The 21st Birthday is a show surely not to miss, with the return of Hattie & Hugo and their bratty way, and not forgetting the poor piñata which, is on a throne this year?!? All is not what it seems and with some better songs, better singers and more of a stage presence we feel this year, this show was actually really good. It’s nice to see the shows improve and continue to step up across all of the event. Don’t worry, they have kept it fresh with new characters and a completely new show so, make sure you stay until the end!
Legacy?!?
Legacy returns for its second year and my god, the show is pure fire! With a whole new reworked show, including more lights, a bigger setup and of course more fire. The show highlights all of the old mazes like before however, they have incorporated it with the theme of the locksmith which links to the 2022 advertising and general theme. We really enjoyed watching this show and was a complete shock compared to last years version. This is another must watch show and our favourite from the event personally!

Overall, Thorpe Park Fright Nights is a premier event for 2022! Whilst the mazes may have been reduced compared to usual and now these all cost, they are all ran at a high quality and Thorpe Park are constantly keeping them updated with surprises and story changes. The whole atmosphere of the island is still very spooky and thrilling, with all the coasters and rides still open amongst the darkness of the resort.
We must thank Thorpe Park for inviting us to the VIP event on Thursday 29th September, giving 2 of us the opportunity to try out the mazes & take exclusive in maze footage. Our review is made up from the press night and the first public opening night on Friday 30th September and our opinion is based on our experiences at the time.
Make sure you check out our TikTok for 20 second snippets of the mazes and scare zones and let us know over on social media what you think of Thorpe Park Fright Nights 2022!
