Christmas Nights at Avon Valley Review

Avon Valley Adventure Park introduced a festive filled event for 2021 including a lights trail, ice skating and funfair. Check out our thoughts on the parks first year of their Christmas event…

Avon Valley Adventure Park is located in Bristol and usually is a wildlife and adventure park, targeting more of a younger audience in previous years. They are also home to FEAR at Avon Valley, their annual Halloween event which is a sell out event and one of our top rated events each year!

For the first ever time, Avon Valley have branched into a full Christmas event offering a range of activities to create lasting memories at this festive time of the year. This includes a light trail, an ice skating rink and a funfair.

The event costs per each activity and were open throughout selected days and evenings at the end of November, December and the start of January. We enjoyed all three festivities that they had to offer on New Years Eve!

Ice Skating is a pretty common activity that can be done throughout the year but doing it during Christmas is pretty magical. Avon Valley had introduced a temporary rink for their guests for the Christmas Nights event. With a 500 square meter rink with some party lighting, festive decorations and some great Christmas music & hits being played, this was perfect for all the family.

Slots ran each hour with it giving you 45 minutes on the ice.

We queued a short while to get our skates but then got straight onto the ice. As expected, the later into the slot it got, the quieter the rink got and allowed you to have more space. It wasn’t too busy but lively enough for it to show how popular it was!

The Christmas light trail was the highlight of the visit however. The park have invested in a one way route light experience which is great fun for all the family and any fans of pretty lights. The park have partnered with a lighting company to put the event on which took you on a fairly lengthy display for their first ever event of this nature.

We got to experience some fantastic looking lights at the start, which made for a great photo opportunity. We then got to see a number of different light displays. Some to calm orchestra music and others were a bit more up tempo. We walked through a winter wonderland which was another great photo opportunity for younger guests with little elf houses amongst other snowy themed goodies.

Other surprises were The Polar Express Miniature Railway and meeting The Grinch, who was played superbly and was totally unexpected! From seeing some of the parks animals amongst all of the lights and other treats, we were in awe and felt very merry. With this being the first year of the event, we honestly cannot wait to see how this expands as it was truly a spectacular.

After experiencing the Ice Skating and the Christmas Nights light trial, we went into the festive funfair. The funfair can be entered for free and everything is bought via tokens on site. They had a mixture of rides from a small Christmas themed kids coaster, to a lit up ferris wheel. Other thrill rides were scattered round with it being a nice mixture for the younger and older audience.

We went on the small Christmas coaster and the ghost train, which were both reasonably priced for an event of this size costing about £3 per person each.

Overall, Christmas Nights at Avon Valley was pretty spectacular. With enough entertainment to spend a good 3 hours at the adventure park, it is perfect for the family to spend some jolly good time together at this time of year. We got to experience the event right towards the end but we are pretty sure with how successful it looked, that it will return in winter 2022. Who knows, they may even expand it even further!

We want to say a huge thanks to the Avon Valley owners and team for putting on a fabulous event and inviting us to experience what they had to offer in 2021. We will keep you up to date on 2022 plans which we hear is going to be pretty big for Avon Valley.
