Urban Playground presents Putters! Putters is a tech infused crazy golf course offering a unique experience in Manchester. Challenge a friend or five as six of you can take on this interactive and different themed course in the Manchester Arndale. Costing £9 per adult and £7 per child, they have multiple 9 hole courses that will take minigolf to the next level. Fancy both courses that are currently open? No problem, it’s £15 per adult and £12 per child!
Putters is hi-tech and it all starts with the club. The club is yours and is your profile for the game. It’ll register each shot you take and display it on a live score board on each hole. Each 9 holes can take up to 45 minutes during the busiest of times and if its quiet, then you can soak up the awesome course for however long you want! The two courses currently open are Circus and Carnival, with a space one looking to open soon. Remember, this isn’t your usual crazy golf so expect a few bonuses along the way and not to play the traditional way.
Prior to playing, you can book online via their website or book upon arrival, depending on availability. Either way, you’ll get a QR code for each player and you’ll need to scan this in at the start of each course. This starting station allows you to learn how to play crazy golf the new way with some videos and rules. Each player will then need a club and to register this along with a name at this station. Everything is super easy and usually there is a staff member on hand to offer any assistance you may need.
This is where the fun begins as you are now unleashed onto the course to play the 9 holes. Each course is themed beautifully to the theme with each hole being different to the next. The courses vary in sizes and whilst the object of the game is still to get the ball into the hole in the least shots, there are usually many tricky alternative routes to take for a few bonus points. This makes Putters really fun and different. Experience interactive screens, multiple routes and chaos as you travel across the 9 holes. Some of our favourites include the fortune teller hole, the rubber ducks and plinko. Whilst some holes are simpler in design to others, they all have quirks and differences with flashy props, sounds and even photo opportunities.
You get a few bonuses to play over the 9 holes and these are activated by your Putters. Once you scan into each hole by placing your club on the signal sign, you can choose from the following. Double points, where anything you score on that hole is doubled. Trial run, where you can play the hole without any points or problems before your real turn. Or play again, where you can play any hole again that you found fun or maybe scored you the most points! Remember, each bonus can only be used once per 9 holes and if you don’t use em, you lose em.
he final hole on each course is different and completely unique. Whilst the rest of the game you have to keep playing until you get it in, the final hole is for all players as you race to win. The carnival theme offered a Derby racer styled final hole, based on the classic game where depending where the ball went in, your horse moved further towards the finishing line. The Circus theme had a helter skelter styled chaos, where you had to hit it up the four sections in order to be claimed victor. The unopened space course will have a skee ball final, where you’ll have a number of shots to get it in the higher point sections. Whichever course you play though, it has some of the wildest and chaotic endings you’ll ever play!
We loved both courses that we got to play and would label it as the best minigolf in the UK right now! Putters is the future of minigolf and the standard all venues should be aiming for with technology and social venue improvements. Whilst we came across one problem during our game on the final hole, this was quickly dealt with by the staff as they still perfect the systems. Other than that, it was honestly mindblowing to see how the future of entertainment and minigolf has taken us. It’s very exciting to see and experience!
We cannot wait to return in the near future to play seamlessly and experience the space course. In the meantime, check out Urban Playground and its Putters attraction when you are visiting Manchester next. Thank you to the Urban Playgrounds team for accommodating our visit and giving us a free experience for both of us to play both open courses during our visit.
