Screamfest Burton is back once again for the 2022 Halloween season! Home to 5 terrifying scare attractions, a lively street team and other thrilling activities, it’s a night not to miss. 

It’s not our first season at this event, so we’ve seen it develop with a fair few different scare attractions over the years. If you want to see our thoughts from previous years, check out our reviews of them below;

For the 2022 event, we see the return of Insomnia which was missed deeply from the 2021 event. Creed Farm, one of our top rated attractions from last year returns for its second season. The recently changed Freakout On Tour also joins the lineup with Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo. Finally, Love Hurts joins us for one last season after having one of the longest runs at Screamfest. 

Speaking with one of the creators of the attractions at Screamfest, Andy Porter explained the event is designed to be a little more laid back with there being something for families to come and visit together, not just for people to be truly terrified in each and every attraction. For example, Insomnia story is designed about the bond between a child and their parents, and the hidden battles they face such as nightmares.

Hillbilly Joe’s Zombee Zoo

“Come on down to the Zombee Zoo, the best day out in all the south! Have we got some sights for y’all. 0 accident free days this year.”

The third year of this silly and quite frankly ridiculous maze, Hillbilly Joe brings all of his wild zombie creations out to play. Whilst the maze remains very similar each year, it is always great to see what zombies they have out each year, from zombie chickens to lobsters, and not forgetting zombie santa! It is more of a fun maze than your typical terrifying haunts, but they still manage to get you good… especially with a false sense of security whilst you’re laughing. As a consistent attraction at the event, it’s always a worthwhile experience to complete your Screamfest evening. 

Freakout On Tour

“The Funhouse is not as abandoned as it looks…Freakout has risen from the ashes.” 

After its recent refurbishment last year, the maze returns as an abandoned Clown filled animatronic building where ravers have taken over. Not all is as it seems, with the clowns being more alive than robotic! The storyline remains strong and clear from a great introduction scene that’s far from your usual theme. The team of Clowns inside still brought the scares with some terrifying props, yet kept it fun and lighthearted as a Clown maze should. Some opportunities did go missed with the big scares and overall atmosphere however, as a complete package, is still a fun, thrilling attraction. 

We’d like to add a big thanks to Andy (creator of several mazes at Screamfest) for taking us around Insomnia at the end of the evening to show us the new version. Getting to look at a few backstage areas, such as the sound technology, go through each scene and the story behind it, and most importantly how guests are hopefully perceiving it.

Overall, Screamfest Burton is a consistently strong event with many great Halloween mazes. We love returning each year to see how they progress and for us to get genuinely terrified in many of the haunts. Compared to other theme park events and surrounding events, Screamfest Burton is a firm favourite and is an event not to be missed by locals and scare fanatics. Tickets can be purchased for as little as £30 with a few ticket options available such as fastrack too.
