We tried out Patient Zero 2150 back in 2018 and you can read more about our experience back then here – AIM Escape Room of Patient Zero 2150 Review – Thrill Nation

We returned in June 2021 to experience Spy Heros, a room that looked amazing from the promo images!

“You’re going undercover. Your friend James has gone off the grid and you need to check if he’s OK. You swing by his restaurant – the lights are on but James isn’t home. The door slams shut, trapping you inside. James liked his security high-end. A note on the table tells you that James is actually an international spy – this is all a cover for his espionage escapades. It’s his HQ and he has been snatched by the henchmen of his evil arch-enemy – Mr Supervillain. You must solve all the puzzles and clues in the room and deploy the huge array of gadgets to save your super-spy pal. As well as hardware and gizmos, you’ll need to think with the cunning of an ace agent – logic, speed and daring are required. Great for all the family – 10 to 60 welcome, comfortable clothes are advised.”

Spy Heros was a heavily themed technology room and you could see this from the moment you walked into the room. It had a great lighting package and impressive retro diner theme to start. Of course this was a cover up for the story and the mission you are a part of. This multi-room experience had everything from searching, literal thinking puzzles to a laser maze room which is incredibly difficult!

Throughout the experience, it was guided by an impressive storyline that flowed across the experience, matched with the impressive technology based puzzles. A thing to note with AIM escapes is padlocks are rarely used so the puzzles are… different!

Storyline & Themeing: 8/10
As we have mentioned, the story was very well explained and helped with its immersive environment you were placed in. Each room had its purpose and transported you to a new part of your mission in the spy agency field. Our favourite had to be the laser maze but don’t be fooled, it’s incredibly hard for just 2 people!

Puzzles & Flow: 6/10
The puzzles were very technology based which is great to see by a company like AIM. This allows for a different type of experience which adds a new challenge. Sadly some of the puzzles felt a little easy or needed another layer to them to make complete sense. This ruined the flow of the game and between the rooms. Overall, the technology elements and some of the puzzles were a real highlight!

Uniqueness: 7/10
AIM Escape has a unique aspect with the high levels of immersion, technology and the power to put these together to create the revolutionary experience they wish their customers to achieve. Whilst they may not be the only escape room out their to have technology heavy rooms, they are one of the best and their attention to detail is something you won’t miss.

Overall, Spy Heros was a fantastic room and we loved being recruited into the spy agency. With one of our favourite parts being the laser room, the whole experience was great fun although it had its small flaws. We would say that some of the puzzles are more on the easy side for professionals or experienced players compared to others but, with a difficulty rating of medium, we would agree that is fitting. We managed to escape in 48 minutes with minimal assistance from our game master but, the little prompts managed to push us through the challenges we did have with the odd puzzle!

We would love to say thank you to the team at AIM Escapes for inviting us to come back and experience another room and to our games master for a fantastic game. If you are fancy being a spy or, fancy trying a technology based room then we would recommend when you are within the London area you check it out!
