Phantom Peak Wintermas Review

Phantom Peak enters a brand new sparkly season, Wintermas. The third chapter of the Phantom Peak world has a new seasonal overlay with all new trails, characters and area, all to explore this Christmas.

For those who have not come across Phantom Peak yet, it is the “World’s First Fully-Immersive Open-World Adventure!” You get to choose your own path and adventure, unique to you and your group by selecting trails, speaking to the town folk and solving the mysteries within. Whilst getting lost in the immersive world, there are always surprises around the corner with additional games, festive food options and drinks too.

There is nothing quite like Phantom Peak in the world, so if you’re local to London or heading that way this winter, keep reading for a snapshot of what you can experience…

As highlighted already, this isn’t the first version of Phantom Peak. With it launching earlier this year in the summer of 2022, we witnessed Season 1, which if you wanted to know more on that, you can read that review by clicking here!

We also checked out the first season show that launched after season 1, called Hallowed Peak for Halloween. This is where they doubled the size of the venue, added more areas to explore and everything got just a little bit bigger. Our review of that can be found by clicking here!

Before we go on to the second seasonal show, Wintermas, it is good to note that Phantom Peak is here to stay! They have announced a further 2 years at the site which will bring at least 5 brand new seasons for you to explore. So if you have yet to visit, this winter is the perfect time to start!

Phantom Peak is easily found in central London, with the closest tube station being Canada Water. From here, it is a 5 minute walk to the location and by using Google Maps, it is super easy. Tickets need to be purchased online prior to attending and start from £45. It is good to note that Phantom Peak now has family tickets and even a seasonal pass too, so if you are looking to attend with your family or, to visit time & time again, then have a look at these new options whilst available to save some money!

The experience does last 5 hours and is hosted on Friday evenings, Saturday day and evening, then Sunday afternoon. So you have 4 sessions each weekend to pick. Phantom Peak Wintermas started towards the end of November 2022 and runs through to January 15th 2023.

The story of Wintermas is as follows;

“It’s Phantom Peak – Wintermas – there’s a new Mayor in Town – and the streets have been transformed into a veritable festive wonderland. Local Carols are sung in the streets – and, for once, Phantom Peak feels unified as the residents of the old and new town seem to put their differences aside in the spirit of the season. However, this unified façade is an illusion: intrigue and unrest bubbles beneath the surface: as the year moves to its conclusion, who knows what might happen at Phantom Peak – Wintermas? Phantom Peak – Wintermas is the next thrilling chapter of Phantom Peak: a picturesque, seasonal spectacular designed to be London’s most festive immersive adventure!”

Phantom peak Wintermas had plenty of surprises and new additions for us regular guests. For new guests, this would just be a part of everything else they would have to explore, making it one festive wonderland all at once! The main new addition would be the Wintermas Grotto, taking over the area where you could find the slow boat ride previously. We managed to meet Father Platypus here, some of his Platypus friends, alongside a new merch area with Christmas goodies. There was also a new food option here with wedges, hotdogs and other snacks.

On to the next new addition, which was the Christmas Raffle. This was £1 a ticket and allowed you to win some merchandise or unique experiences within the event which money couldn’t buy, such as a personal meet and greet with Father Platypus or maybe even a coffin fitting… We managed to win a cowboy hat on our visit!

The other new change was the entrance gate, this was hosted at the other end of the event. This was a perfect change for the winter event, as it took you immediately undercover, it had a cloakroom and you could go to the toilets immediately too.

For Wintermas, we were gifted 12 trails which if you have been before, you would know is a right challenge to complete all in just one visit. Most people complete around 5-6 trails, but this changes depending on what you want to do during your time at Phantom Peak. The trails are the adventure and gameplay element, where you get to use a website to get a hint of where to go and who to speak to, before providing an answer and following the mystery before it unfolds. The stories are always interesting and link to certain characters, so you get to slowly meet them through your journeys. With many different ways to decode information you are given, this also keeps each trail fresh as you are not doing the same action or task time and time again.

We believe the trails were some of the best yet, as they allowed us to explore more areas than before, and they were more simplified than before and not lasting as long as previous trails we had done in other seasons. We think the shorter stories worked and kept us more engaged throughout each adventure.

Amongst all of the new trails and additions, we had all of the same characters that you get to know and love to see throughout your time here. The trails when completed give you a themed playing card which signifies the end of that mission, which is a nice gesture and great free merchandise to take with you.

Some of our favourite areas now at Phantom Peak is the lake in front of the garden house, as this hosts the famous Platyhooks game. A simple game, where you must hook the platypus out of the water and at the end get given a ribbon to highlight you are a champion. Simple but genius. We also loved the new addition of Father Platypus and his companions on the sled for Christmas. Although we did have to talk to him behind bars, if you visit you will find out why but he was a great interaction point for all guests! We also loved meeting Sparks on this visit, he really did give us a laugh with his unique room, stories, songs and on the spot acting when we threw some curveballs.

Overall, Wintermas at Phantom Peak is not to be missed as one of Christmas hottest attractions right now. With it being our third visit, we are constantly wanting more and are yet to be bored when visiting this venue. It is such a unique thrilling adventure which you won’t find anywhere else, so to have it in the centre of London is a Christmas blessing. With all the food & drink options, festive overlay and a perfect team behind the scenes as well as the actors who stay in character for the whole time, it truly is fantastic.

Make sure you check out our TikTok of this Christmas wonderland and get your tickets for this season before time runs out. Let us know your thoughts on our social media and for us, we look forward to the next season in the near future!
