Murder Mr. E by Agent November Review

Agent November is one of the top escape game experiences hosted in the UK. Found in a number of locations, they host games virtually, in London and even at Brighton & Edinburgh Fringe Fest! Based on a spy organisation, you are assigned to take down Marty Orri, a criminal mastermind as you walk the line between immersive theatre and espionage.

We’ve managed to experience many of Agent November’s escape experience in recent years. From Virtual X-Caper, their first online experience through to Robyn Yew, a real life London mission. The experiences are always so different and offer such a unique take on the escape room experience. Not being hosted in one set location, each game is portable and can be taken to different locations to be hosted.

“Mr E, a key ally of Agent November, has been murdered. We know that the killer is one of Marty Orri’s minions. Clues lie scattered around the crime scene. Investigate the suspects & unlock the evidence. Unless you find the killer, you might be next!”

Murder Mr E is a mission that is usually setup indoors in a pub, cafe or meeting room space and does not require much movement for this game. The experience costs £25 per person and groups and can be of a larger size as they will make the relevant arrangements accordingly for you.

Other pricing arrangements may vary at the fringe festivals and it is best to check when these are on.

Our experience was hosted outside as we were assisting with a trial game with some new improved additions. The experience was introduced by Agent Nathan and his virtual brother, Agent November. A task had been assigned and we had to work out who Murdered Mr E and how they did. We had 30 minutes in order to do so before the serum we touched would enter our blood stream and kill us all. This may of been the Agents Nathan’s fault but, he wasn’t to know that simply touching some key documents was going to cause such destruction for us all. Time was ticking and we had to solve the case so the antidote could be administered!

The introduction was a great mix of real life and pre-recorded video, which allowed to set the scene, the mission and the tasks ahead. From here, there was a number of items we had to unlock and gather to try and piece this together. We had a handful of suspects and a broken timeline, which we had to get as many key facts in time to help us decide who done it. It wasn’t that simple though, as everything was locked, padlocked or had a secret message to be solved.

We had quite a large team on this experience, so we all managed to split off and work on different puzzles. Whilst not all of them made sense at first, we managed to work at great speed to break into locked padlocks and start to piece together the ultimate puzzle.

Our favourite part was how the experience allowed a large group to work together and how you could do so many different parts of the experience at the same time. You weren’t set on 1 puzzle or challenge and had to move on, so the non linear style really works for this game.

Murder Mr E had no special puzzles as such and wasn’t the highest of quality in production but, the style of game does not require this. This game can be played in a number of locations and the fundamentals of the challenges and tasks set, really just require some logical thinking. It’s nice to see a game that does not overcomplicate an escape based game.

The experience still crosses the escape room experience along with murder mystery, as you had to work out the killer. Before the time was up, we had to all pick separately who we thought done it by selecting a relevant item. Not all of us survived sadly but the majority managed to find the correct answer from looking at all the clues!

Overall, Murder Mr E by Agent November was a fantastic fun experience which showed us that you don’t need a long or expensive production to put on an immersive adventure. Even when hosted outside in the eyes of the public and some of the elements needed to be imagined they were locked into place, it was still enjoyed by our group. Agent November has this magic about them that they can provide a high quality adventure without overcomplicating the puzzles, theme or setting.

We love to thank Agent November for hosting our experience of Murder Mr E complimentary. This was in return for our review and our thoughts on the game as it has been amended to be better! We recommend you experience it when you can and recommend this for people who are after a quick challenge and like logical games & experiences!
